“Clip to OneNote” Firefox Extension
There is a useful Firefox extension that allows you to send webclippings from Firefox to OneNote. It was developed by Gmx Lee for OneNote 2003. You can get it directly from his website. Even though it was developed for OneNote 2003, it also works with OneNote 2007.
Unfortunately, the latest Firefox version it supports is 1.5. To get it to work with later Firefox versions, you have to edit the file so that it will install in later versions. Editing the file isn’t everyone’s thing, so I decided to provide the edited file as download here.
Download the edited Clip to OneNote Firefox (up to V3) extension
Note: This is not my extension! You are on your own with it. I will not provide any support nor answer any questions nor help you using it!

Heyo -
I’m just starting to learn to use OneNote, did a search for a firefox extension, and found this. Thanks much! Unfortunately, I’m not sure what to do with the .xpi file - do I place it somewhere in the Firefox directory? Do I need a special program to install the file? Thanks.

Dylan,
Browse on this site with Firefox and click the file. Firefox should ask you then to install the XPI. Actually, it will first present you with a yellow bar warning that you don’t trust this site yet to install something from.

Odd - it just asks me if I want to download or open it, and if I choose open, says it doesn’t know how.
Still, thanks for the response:)

Ooops John had the correct method of installation, but after installing it, and then going to Tools>clip to onenote, nothing seems to happen in Onenote…. I tried restarting firefox to see if that helped , no luck

In Firefox 2: Tools, Add-ons, Clip to OneNote, Options, make sure to find the OneNote.exe file in there.

Thanks for the work on this extension. Is there a way to get this extension to just copy a snippet instead of the whole page? I also run into formating issues with certain pages. My version of FF is 2.0.0.5.

For those of you having trouble opening the file, I had the same troubles, but I finally got it to work by using the following method. There’s probably an easier way, but this isn’t too bad: Go to Tools –> Addons. Go back to this page, click on the link, and drag it onto the Addons window. Drop it, and follow the installation instructions. Hope this helps.

I think the misunderstanding is what it does. THis adds to clip the firefox extension. so you clip the info you want in firefox browser then instead of using the clip box for email it etc go to tool and use clip to endnote. it then allows a paste into endnote. At least thats how it works for me on endnote 2007 firefox 2.06

So whats the difference between doing that and copy and paste or just drag and drop?
August 10th, 2007 at 8:19
OK I see, you actually have to go to tools and into the add-ons click options and locate where OneNote is installed.
August 11th, 2007 at 20:21
It works!!! Thanks a lot.

1.) Download the file
2.) In firefox click File->open then go to the directory where you saved the extension and open it
3.) Click Tools->Addons->Options and go to the directory where OneNote is installed…usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Ofifce
4.) Once the directory is set restart firefox and then highlight something. Right click it and clip to one note. One note should pop up with the highlighted selection and voila.

Well done, thanks a lot for this

There is one final step to make the OneNote extension work, that some people may not know about.
Once you’ve installed it in FireFox, go to Tools/Add-Ons/
Find your “Clip to OneNote” extension.
Click “Options.” It will say: “OneNote Path” You have to click on the “…” button and show the extension exactly where your OneNote program (onenote.exe) is located on your hard drive. Once you’ve done that, it should work perfectly! It does for me.
Thank you to Patrick for updating it, and to everyone here who offered helpful hints and suggestions.
