Macro support for RibbonCustomizer

June 8th, 2007 by Patrick Schmid

You can now use RibbonCustomizer to add macros to your Ribbon in Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. The support in Outlook is flaky, so I might have to remove it in a later build.

If you want to give it a try, download the latest beta version.

Update: In my excitement about posting this, I forgot to mention how to actually use it :)

To add a macro, go into the Customize Ribbon dialog, then either create a new group or select an already created one. Switch to the Customize Group tab. On the right hand side, select Custom Items from the drop down, then pick Macro and click Add Command. After that, you have to provide the name of the macro and then its label.

I purchased the Professional copy and got a serial number. I downloaded the latest beta version (to work with the macros) and installed it and rebooted. I opened Word 2007 and went to View and saw a menu to enter the code and did so. There was no feedback of it being recognized and no change in what I see when I open the Customize Ribbon Dialog - no Customize Group tab.

How do I tell what version I am running?
How do I tell if the serial number was recognized?
How do I get to use the new features?

    Thanks for your great program

What does it say when you go into the View tab, Customize Ribbon group, click the text portion of the customize ribbon split button, About. Does it say RibbonCustomizer Professional there and your email address?
If it does, then everything is working perfectly.
It should also say V1.2 there. If you have only used the beta, then you won’t see a visual difference in the Customize Ribbon dialog. The same buttons are displayed in the Starter Edition as in the Professional edition, with the difference being that most of them don’t work in the Starter Edition. If you had already started the 30 days free trial, then you should notice any difference in the Professional Edition (except of course that it won’t expire in 30 days).

[…] To add these items to your customizations, look in the same Custom Item list that you can find macros under. […]
